The annual meeting and joint conference with the Asian Faculty Association at Yale

The Chinese-American Professors Association in Connecticut (CAPA-CT) hosted its annual meeting and joint conference with the Asian Faculty Association at Yale (AFAY) on May 4th, 2024, at the Marsh Lecture Hall of Yale Science Building. The conference theme was “Embracing Challenges and Opportunities: Perspectives of Asian American Scholars.”

Key Highlights:

· Approximately 150 attendees, mainly faculty members and students from universities across Connecticut.

· Attendees also included professionals in industry and scholars from other states, such as New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

· Topics ranged from issues of racial bias and profiling against Asian Americans to breakthroughs in AI and biomedicine.

· Henry Lee (former Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety)

· William Tong (Connecticut Attorney General)

· Terrence Cheng (Chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities)

· Bruce Liang (UConn medical school dean and CEO of UConn Health)

· Haiyan Tang (Quinn Emanuel)

· Rong Fan (Yale)

Beacon Awards:

· Gang Chen (MIT)

· Edward Guo (Columbia University)

· Qin Yan (Yale)


Significance:

This conference marked CAPA-CT’s first formal event since the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrated its 10-year anniversary, paving the way for future initiatives supporting Chinese American scholars in Connecticut.
